 Fred Richardson (1917-2007)

Frederick H. Richardson (1917-2007) - April 9, 2007

Frederick H. Richardson, age 89 died at his home in Barrington, RI on April 5, 2007. He leaves his beloved wife of 63 years, Phoebe Burnside Richardson, two children, Ruth Young of Barrington, RI and George Richardson of Buena Vista, CO, eight grand children, fourteen and a half great grand children and a great, great grandchild.

Fred was born in Meredith, NH on June 8, 1917. He was the son of Royal P. and Ruth H. Richardson. He graduated from Barrington High School in 1935 and Brown University in 1939. He served in the US Coast Guard and was stationed in New Orleans during WWII.
After his discharge from the Coast Guard he began work at Blount Seafood Corporation and served as it’s Vice President, President, Chairman of the Board and faithful Board Member until his death.

He enjoyed a lifelong passion for railroading in general and steam locomotives in particular. With his life long friend, Nelson Blount, he wrote a book, purchased and operated Edaville Railroad, and was instrumental in the founding of Steamtown USA National Park, dedicated to the preservation of historical railroading. A glance at his bookshelves is evidence that his love for trains has not diminished.

In his long and distinguished life he has formed many enduring friendships as a boss and mentor and through more than 35 years of continuous Bible studies taught in his home and many other places. Of all the significant accomplishments of his life he would count his family and friends the most satisfying and enduring.

We miss him but rejoice in his new freedom and look forward to being together again in the presence of the Lord.
